How Jesus Saves
YES!!!!
Jesus did not save by sword or spear by any means.
Matthew 26:50-51 - Then they came up, took hold of Jesus, and arrested him. At that moment one of those with Jesus reached out his hand and drew his sword. He struck the high priest’s servant and cut off his ear.
Luke 22:49.- But Jesus responded, “No more of this!” And touching his ear, he healed him.
Matthew 26:52-54 - Then Jesus told him, “Put your sword back in its place because all who take up the sword will perish by the sword. Or do you think that I cannot call on my Father, and he will provide me here and now with more than twelve legions of angels? How, then, would the Scriptures be fulfilled that say it must happen this way?”
What was the way it must happen?
First, he was put on trial before the high priests and found innocent. Yet, this ended in him getting spat in the face, beaten, slapped, and mocked.
Then He was brought to 2 different government officials for trial and found innocent. Yet a notorious prisoner was chosen to be freed over Him. He was then flogged, mocked, spat on, and beaten.
Then they pierced his hands and feet and hung him on the cross. While he was suffering they divided his clothes by casting lots and mocked him.
Psalm 22:6-8
But I am a worm and not a man,
Scorned by mankind and despised by people.
Everyone who sees me mocks me;
They sneer and shake their heads:
“He relies on the LORD;
Let him save him;
Let the LORD rescue him,
Since he takes pleasure in him.”
Psalm, 22:14-18
I am poured out like water,
And all my bones are disjointed;
My heart is like wax,
Melting within me.
My strength is dried up like baked clay;
My tongue sticks to the roof of my mouth.
You put me into the dust of death.
For dogs have surrounded me;
A gang of evildoers has closed in on me;
They pierced my hands and my feet.
I can count all my bones;
People look and stare at me.
They divided my garments among themselves,
And they cast lots for my clothing.
And that’s where He died, but it doesn’t end there!
Luke 24:1-7 - On the first day of the week, very early in the morning, they came to the tomb, bringing the spices they had prepared. They found the stone rolled away from the tomb. They went in but did not find the body of the Lord Jesus. While they were perplexed about this, suddenly two men stood by them in dazzling clothes. So the women were terrified and bowed down to the ground.
“Why are you looking for the living among the dead?” asked the men. “He is not here, but he has risen! Remember how he spoke to you when he was still in Galilee, saying, “It is necessary that the Son of Man be betrayed into the hands of sinful men, be crucified, and rise on the third day?”
Luke 24:44-47 - Jesus told them, “These are my words that I spoke to you while I was still with you - that everything written about me in the Law of Moses, the Prophets, and the Psalms must be fulfilled.” Then he opened their minds to understand the Scriptures. He also said to them, “This is what is written: The Messiah will suffer and rise from the dead the third day, and repentance for forgiveness of sins will be proclaimed in his name to all the nations, beginning at Jerusalem.”
Jesus, God, chose to come and live a human life knowingly walking closer and closer to this moment of torture and shame. He planned and willingly went through with this to save us from sin.
In moments when you feel like you’re losing to sin, remember: “The battle is the Lord’s. He will hand the enemy over to you.”
