Walking With God
When thinking of this I couldn’t help but be reminded of Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden. Genesis 3:8 states “Then the man and his wife heard the sound of the Lord God walking in the garden and the time the evening breeze.” I imagine that this happened daily. That they would walk with God every day. It was a joyful norm for them. Until they had turned from the Tree of Life and instead of joining God in His walk “they hid from the Lord God among the trees of the garden.” Genesis 3:8 continued (CSB)
This has happened often in my own life. I’ve sinned, once again. I shrink away from God because I’m ashamed. I know He loves me unconditionally, but He deserves better. I’m a mess. I should’ve improved more than this by now.
“Repent and be baptized, each of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins, and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.” Acts 2:38 (CSB)
Oh! The beauty of the Holy Spirit, God is not only walking with us but is in us here and now. Jesus died so we could not only know the truth that we’re unconditionally loved but that we are being made holy.
“For God’s will was for us to be made holy by the sacrifice of the body of Jesus Christ, once for all time. For by that one offering he forever made perfect those who are being made holy.” Hebrews 10:10,14 (NLT)
As we know with the Holy Spirit we can “walk with God” now. It is a daily choice, though. Will I receive that I am already made in His image or will I try to seek it out myself and hide when I don’t measure up?
“Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not rely on your own understanding; in all your ways know him, and he will make your paths straight. Don’t be wise in your own eyes; fear the Lord and turn away from evil. This will be healing for your body and strengthening for your bones.” Proverbs 3:5-8 (CSB)
When we have accepted and grown to believe in our hearts that Jesus has defeated our sins, we get to experience the freedom of walking with God.
“Now the Lord is the Spirit and where the Lord is, there is freedom.” 2 Corinthians 3:17 (CSB)
